Pork Our free-range herd of approximately 350 sows is based at Marcham on our sandier land to the North of the village. We have farmed pigs for many years however in 2005 we decided to introduce rare breeds including Gloucester Old Spots and Berkshires into our herd. The main reasons for this are helping the survival of traditional, local breeds and to trying to re-introduce the qualities of taste and eating that these breeds have.
Our pigs are raised in a high welfare system to produce pigs that are as healthy as possible and grow well. They are slaughtered as locally as possible, butchered into the usual joints and cuts as well as being made into various types of sausages, burgers and bacon. The meat is vacuum packed and then professionally frozen. Please ensure that the meat is always fully defrosted out of its packaging before cooking. |
